High speed internet expansion in rural Grey county has been slowed to a crawl.
The company that was hired to provide the service has run into financial trouble during phase two of the project.
Head of Information technology for Grey County, Geoff Hogan, says Everus Communication completed the first part of the project with no problems, and those customers are up and running on wireless internet.
However, Everus ran into trouble finding capital for phase 2 and Grey County Council decided this week to give the company 45 days to get it’s financial house in order.
Everus is contracted to provide point-to-point high speed internet service to rural Grey county customers, similar to the way Cell phones work.
Under the deal — Queens Park provided 1 million dollars, Grey County provided 100 thousand and Everus was to come up with 2 million dollars.
Hogan says if the company fails to secure some additional funding within 45 days, the county may be forced to re-open the bidding to get the project completed.
