Alfred Hitchcock’s film “The Birds” is not on the menu but a number of provocative films will be screened during this years annual Bruce Peninsula Environmental Film Festival.
The festival is an annual fundraiser for the Bruce Peninsula Bird Observatory.
Environmental Studies Professor Steve Scharper says it will run from August 8th to the 15th.
He says they try to bring in films that will promote discussion about what the films are saying about society and the environment.
Scharper says one film, What would Jesus buy, is a documentary about how consumerism has become a religion, and the Truman Show which is about what happens when a corporation adopts a child.
He says while the films are meant to engage the audience in meaningful discussion, the purpose of the festival is to raise money to researchers can continue their work monitoring bird populations at the Bird Observatory.
Scharper says as a bit of a kick off to the annual film festival — Green Party Leader Elizabeth May will be speak at 4 PM today at the Visitor Centre at Bruce Peninsula National Park.
Scharper says both he and May will be speaking on faith, environmental ethics and the common good.
Scharper says what will make this discussion even more interesting is the fact Ms. May is studying to become an Anglican Minister.
