A longtime dream for trail users in Saugeen Shores is about to come true.
Council has awarded Harold Sutherland Construction the 69 thousand dollar tender to complete the Gore Drain Trail to connect with the Deer Run Trail in MacGregor Point Provincial Park.
Mayor Mike Smith says summer students are working at the park to complete its share of the Deer Run Trail and says the connection is something that the town has envisioned for years.
He says it’s a long stretch and is part of the Master Trail Study.
Smith says the town planned to have the connection to the park completed in 10 years, but it will be finished now in less time.
Two-thirds of the project is being covered by a federal/provincial recreation infrastructure grant.
The new trail will run from the park boundary at Concession 4 to C-A-W Road.
The connection between the Saugeen Shores Trail system and MacGregor Point Provincial Park means the town is one step closer to having a continuous trail system for residents and visitors to enjoy from the southern boundary north to Southampton.
