The Conservative MP for Huron-Bruce says the Harper government accomplished a lot in the recent sitting of Parliament despite being in a minority position in the Commons.
Ben Lobb says he’s most proud of what the government has been able to do for his home riding.
Lobb says that’s been helped along by fiscal initiatives contained in the January budget.
Lobb says health-care transfers are up six per-cent over last year and social transfers are up by three per-cent.
Lobb points to a number of specific programs that directly benefit Huron-Bruce residents.
He says the Harper government is making new investments in affordable housing throughout the riding through fiscal transfers to the provincial government.
Lobb says funding for job re-training has been provided through the New Horizons Program administered by the Human Resources and Skills Development Department.
Lobb says 85 organizations in Huron-Bruce have also received 250-thousand dollars to help students find work.
Lobb says a range of grants have been provided for commerce, industry and the arts.
Lobb says 32-million dollars in federal infrastructure funding has been transferred to Huron-Bruce and the ethanol plant in Tiverton has received 14-million.
He says Thursday’s announcement of 25-thousand dollars for the Goderich Celtic Roots Festival is just the latest in a series of arts grants which includes funding for the Huron County Playhouse and the Kincardine Music Festival.
