A major sewer project in the area between Port Elgin and Southampton is going ahead.
Council has awarded a contract worth over 1.2 million dollars for the Concession 10 sewer project to Omega Contractors.
Director of Engineering Services Dave Burnside says over 123 thousand dollars has been added to the cost because higher-quality concrete pipe will be used instead of aluminum.
Two-thirds of the project cost is being covered by federal/provincial infrastructure stimulus money.
Saugeen Shores Mayor Mike Smith says it’s one of the first stimulus projects in Bruce County to go to tender, but others are close.
Smith hopes the project is done this year and says it’s tied in with paving work on Miramichi Bay Road.
He says the storm sewer project is being done first so the paving work on the intersecting road will not be affected.
