An important deadline is almost here as the Harper government starts shaping its 2010 budget.
You have until the end of today to apply to make a personal appearance before the Commons Standing Committee on Finance to share your input on what you think the spending plan should contain.
Huron-Bruce Conservative MP Ben Lobb says Committee members will take all ideas under consideration at Committee hearings this fall.
Lobb says whether your idea deals with agriculture, urban transit or anything else contained in the budget, the committee is prepared to listen.
Lobb says the committee won’t let your input sit and gather dust on a shelf.
He says he knows that everyone involved in crafting the federal budget, from Finance Minister Jim Flaherty on down looks at every idea submitted at a series of hearings being held across the country.
Lobb says the budget handed down by Finance Minister Jim Flaherty early this year is proof that the committee hearings are valuable.
Lobb says the document is proof that the Finance Committee listens to Canadians’ submissions and take them seriously.
Lobb says you still have two weeks to submit your ideas for the budget in writing — the deadline for that is August 14th.
The Standing Committee on Finance will hold hearings in Toronto and nine other cities across Canada.
