Not for Profit groups can get help to pay for new affordable housing projects.
The provincial and federal governments have announced a new infrastructure funding program for not for profit organizations.
Groups can apply for money for housing structures, community centres and cultural infrastructure.
Bruce Grey Owen Sound MP Larry Miller hopes the groups in his riding will take advantage of the program to build more housing units for low income families.
Miller says there is a desperate need for that type of housing in almost every area of his riding.
Applications for shovel ready projects must be made by August 18th.
The federal and provincial governments will each cover one third of the cost and not for profit groups must pay for the balance of the project.
Miller says they learned of the program during their three day Caucus retreat this week in Ottawa.
The local MP says they talked about Conservative strategies and legislation that will be tabled in the fall.
Miller says they really didn’t talk too much about the election and he doesn’t think people want to head to the polls.
Miller also echoed the comments of some cabinet ministers that there is still a long way to go to recover from the recession.
