More controversy in the Town of South Bruce Peninsula as Mayor Gwen Gilbert was censured by Council.
Members voted 7-1 at last night’s meeting to censure Mayor Gwen Gilbert for refusing to apologize for her comments of possible corruption by Council.
Art King was the only member to vote against the motion and Gilbert didn’t vote.
The Mayor made the comments after a decision by Council in June to override hiring policies and appoint Annette Robson as the new financial services manager.
Gilbert and King were the only votes against the hiring of Robson — who has since turned down the job offer.
Gilbert was opposed to the move because CAO Malcolm McIntosh was on holidays and he normally recommends the hiring of all department heads.
But what happens next remains in doubt.
After an In Camera session last night — Council withdrew its original motion to hire Robson.
But its motion to censure Mayor Gilbert was never talked about again.
Gilbert would only say she remains the Mayor of the municipality.
Other Council members refused to comment on their decision.
Councillor Mark Wunderlich also presented a motion to ask the Ministry of Municipal Affairs to step in — but that was defeated.
