The number of Canadians receiving Employment Insurance benefits hit an all-time high in May.
Close to 800 thousand Canadians received regular EI benefits — an increase of over 65 thousand from April.
Ontario and Alberta showed the fastest rates of increase.
In the Owen Sound area — the E-I numbers dropped as 690 people filed for E-I benefits in May compared to 870 people in April.
470 more people in Kitchener used EI in May compared with April.
In London the number of claims went down by 90.
The number remains unchanged in Stratford at 1,320 claims.
Following two months of small declines, the number of initial and renewal claims received in May is the highest since 1997.
