After only a week of its re-start, Collingwood’s ethanol plant is shutting down again.
The plant — now known as Amaizeingly Green — re-started on Monday, July 20th after a shorter shut down than had been expected to install new equipment to reduce the smells and noise coming from the facility.
The shut down was less than a month after it was expected to take more than eight weeks.
Mayor Chris Carrier says he got an e-mail from plant General Manager Martin Kazmir saying the plant has received a number of complaints from people who live near the facility about a foul smell.
Kazmir says in the e-mail he is shutting down the plant until he can find out if something in the plant isn’t working right.
The GM adds the company’s engineer is on site and is examining the entire plant and taking odour samples.
Kazmir goes on to say he’s reasonably confident the plant isn’t a significant source of odours detected on Monday July 27th) — but he wants to be able to show residents the plant has corrected its historic problems.
Mayor Carrier says this shows the company is taking the concerns of people who live around the plant very seriously.
