Bad weather didn’t stop people from coming out to another rally against the site 41 landfill in Tiny Township.
About 1 thousand people gathered at the Perkinsfield Pavilion on Balm Beach Road yesterday to hear from guest speakers, and show their opposition to the landfill.
Bayshore Broadcasting News Reporter Phil Birchard tells us an injunction to stop the blockade hasn’t dampened the spirits of the protestors and their supporters.
Protest organizer Vicki Monague was one of the people named in the injunction by Simcoe County to stop the blockade at the landfill.
That injunction is seeking damages from Monague, and is also calling on police to intervene and stop the blockade.
She says they were expecting the injunction because they were blocking the gates, and Monague says it didn’t surprise her that the injunction named her either because she was front and centre in the protest.
Monague says the protestors at the gate are ready to be arrested too.
She says they have been given arrest training and legal council to make sure they’re safe when the arrests do occur.
Monague says they’ve asked the OPP to have ambulances when arrests are made because many of the protestors are elderly.
She says the injunction has actually brought more people out to the blockade, and has made the protest stronger and increased the numbers at Site 41.
