Nancy Island is taking a trip back in time this weekend.
The 7th Wasaga Under Siege event started Friday — and there will be four main battles taking place.
Dave Brunelle with Wasaga Under Siege says as soon as you walk over onto Nancy Island, it will be like a time warp with 300 to 400 re-enactors in clothing from the 1800’s.
He says of the four battles taking place over the weekend, 3 of them are fictional and 1 is historical.
The first battle, called “Skirmish in the Woods” starts at 7 o’clock Friday evening at Beach Area 2.
Brunelle says the second battle is at Beach Area 1 on Saturday afternoon at 2 PM.
He says the historical battle is Saturday evening, which is the main battle where they will be re-enacting the sinking of the Nancy.
Then the final battle is Sunday afternoon at Beach Area 2 at 2 PM.
Brunelle says they’ll also be using a small detachment of canoes to row up from Nancy Island to Schooner Park and back again.
The Nancy was sunk during the war of 1812 when the ship was hiding on the Nottawasaga.
It was the last British ship on the Upper Great Lakes, and used the Nottawasaga River to move supplies.
