The Liberal MPP for Huron Bruce is taking the Opposition to task on remarks concerning the province’s Underserviced Area Program she says are inaccurate.
Carol Mitchell says she wants to set the record straight.
The Program was set up in 1969 to help recruit doctors to smaller communities across the province.
Mitchell refutes Opposition remarks that money is being cut.
Mitchell says something had to be done after years of changes that stacked the doctor recruitment deck against smaller communities.
She says the changes meant that larger centres like London and Kitchener were getting the lion’s share of provincial funding for doctor recruitment while areas like Huron-Bruce were left in the cold.
Mitchell has been appointed to represent rural communities on an advisory panel set up by Health Minister David Caplan as the province moves to reform the Program.
