There will be a new passing lane and road upgrades on Highway 6 south of Durham.
The province has announced 13.4 million dollars in funding to improve 10 kilometres of the highway between Grey Road 9 and Durham.
The province says the work will not only improve highway safety — but it will also create 120 construction jobs.
The work has already started and is expected to be complete next year.
The project includes a new northbound passing lane, culvert replacements, intersection improves and road repaving.
Southgate Mayor Don Lewis says the project will improve public safety and enhance a valued transportation artery in the community.
Cox Construction Limited of Guelph has been awarded the contract for the road work.
