Collingwood has been invaded this weekend by Elvis Tribute artists and the fans who love them.
The main street will be crowded with thousands of fans taking in Elvis’s music all afternoon and evening, starting at 1 PM.
121 Elvis Tribute artists will compete for prizes and the chance to compete at Graceland’s own festival next month.
Performers Robin Kelly and Dean Vegas are full-time tribute artists.
Both say they do it for the fans, and try to connect with the audience by bringing them a happy memory of Elvis Presley.
Kelly says the costumes and the moves are just window dressing, but the music is the important part.
Vegas says he owes nearly everything he has to Presley’s music, since it provides him with a full time living and has taken him all over the world.
There are lots of street closures in Collingwood this weekend for the 15th annual Elvis festival.
Hurontario Street is closed today from First Street to Third Street.
That closure remains in effect until noon Saturday.
Hurontario willl be closed from the Lake to Lockhart tomorrow from 9 AM to Noon for the parade.
Saint Marie street is now closed until Sunday night, as are Second and Simcoe streets Pine to Saint Marie.
The two municipal parking lots are also closed.
The lots on Pine street and Saint Marie Streets will re-open at midnight Sunday.
Millenium Park behind the grain terminal will remain closed until midnight Sunday.
