Get those fishing poles ready, it’s time for the 26th annual 98 the Beach Chantry Chinook Classic Salmon Derby.
At midnight tonight. the derby begins and continues until Saturday, August 8th at 12 Noon.
Derby chair Todd Devries says organizers are already pleased with the event this year.
As of now, there are over 380 participants signed up, which is an increase of 50 over last year.
Devries says they expect more to sign up during the course of the two week event.
Up for grabs is a 10 thousand dollar cash prize for the largest salmon, followed by a four thousand dollar second prize and a two thousan dollar third prize.
Devries says the top 25 will be receiving cash prizes.
There is also a trout division which the largest trout earning the catcher 25 hundred dollars.
Devries says there are a ton of other prizes that will be given out while the derby is in progress.
As usual, there will be the special days.
Ladies days go this Sunday and again next Sunday, August 2nd.
Seniors Days go Wednesday, July 29th and August 5th.
Finally, there’s a kids day on Saturday August 1st, Noon to 4 PM.
Every participant will win a small tackle box and some tackle and there are four bicycles up for grabs as well.

The awards ceremony will be held Saturday, August 8th at 3 PM at the Tiverton Community Centre.
