Bruce Power and the Toronto Maple Leafs are teaming up.
Bruce Power CEO Duncan Hawthorne and Toronto Maple Leafs General Manager Brian Burke appeared before a crowd of employees yesterday to highlight what each organization can do for each other.
Hawthorne says the Leafs want an emission-free source of electricity so they’re signing a long-term contract to provide power to the Air Canada Centre.
Hawthorne says they are also building the Bruce Power brand by signing with the Maple Leafs brand that is known across Canada and the U-S.
He says Bruce Power’s identity will now be visible whenever anyone else watches a game.
Hawthorne says being associated with the Leafs allows Bruce Power to reach an audience it couldn’t reach on its own.
Leaf’s General Manager Brian Burke says they’re excited about the partnership and appreciates Bruce Power’s commitment to clean energy.
Burke says Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment tries to forge partnerships with companies that share their values, and Bruce Power is a natural fit.
Burke was spending the day at the Bruce Power site in Tiverton, including for a tour of the Bruce B plant.
He jokes that he was looking forward to meeting employees but didn’t expect to learn too much about how to run the plant himself.
