Building permit and construction value numbers were soft for Kincardine in June.
Building and Planning Manager Michele Barr says 29 permits worth 4.7-million dollars were issued last month, compared to 35 permits working 5.8-million the year before.
The year-to-date figures are lower this year as well.
Barr says as of the end of June 113 permits had been issued, representing 11.6 million dollars of construction.
It’s a far cry from the 174 permits issued last year at the same time, worth 23.2-million-dollars.
Barr points out that this year there is less single family detached construction going on and last year’s numbers also include 5 million dollars worth of wind turbine construction that isn’t happening this year.
Nevertheless, Barr says, contractors are reporting a busy year for the rest of 2009, despite the slow-down in the economy.
