The Harper government wants you to put your two cents-worth in as they craft next year’s federal budget.
Huron-Bruce Conservative MP Ben Lobb says his party is getting started early by collecting ideas and input on the spending plan at hearings in Toronto and nine other major centres across Canada.
Lobb says the last set of pre-budget consultation hearings was very successful and received constructive feedback from Canadians on what they wanted to see included in the spending plan.
Lobb says the decision to hold the upcoming hearings was based on the encouraging outcome of last year’s sessions.
Lobb says there are two deadlines by which to submit your ideas to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance either in person or in writing.
Lobb says you have until July 31st to apply to make a personal submission before the Standing Committee and until August 14th to get your written ideas in.
Lobb says his constituency offices in Goderich and Port Elgin will supply you with the information you need to make an application.
Lobb says some of what was contained in Finance Minister Jim Flaherty’s last budget was based on suggestions by local residents.
He says some ideas from Huron-Bruce helped lead to the home renovation rebate program, and to address the issue of accelerated depreciation of computer equipment used by businesses.
You can find out more information on how to apply to make a submission to the Standing Committee on Finance on the Government of Canada website.
