Some tense moments in the air for a Port Elgin pilot and his daughter.
Bruce Peninsula OPP say the 62 year old man was forced to make an emergency landing just before Noon Monday after his plane experienced major engine failure.
The pilot was able to glide the 1964 Cessna 172 down and land it safely in a farmer’s grain field off of Bruce Road 9, near Hope Bay, north of Wiarton.
The Town of South Bruce Peninsula Fire Department was dispatched to the scene, but their services were not required because the craft stayed upright and was undamaged.
In keeping with policy, Transport Canada will be notified of the incident.
Police say the man and his 24 year old daughter were on route from Tobermory to Port Elgin.
