Bruce and Grey Counties are trying to figure out which of the two municipalities owns a bridge located on the boundary between South Bruce and West Grey.
The 12th Concession Bridge in the former Carrick Township was built in 1934 and is being considered for repairs or replacement.
However, Bruce County wants to figure out who actually owns it before any work happens.
Research needs to be done of records dating back nearly 80 years to find out.
County Councillor Larry Kraemer says more homework is being done to find out, and it isn’t everyday council has to deal with records dating back to the 1930’s.
Kraemer says they’re taking a study approach before making any further moves by looking at county records, as well as those of the lower tier municipalities.
He says the idea is to find out what their records say and try to figure out who actually owns the bridge.
A joint sub-committee composed of elected officials and staff from Bruce and Grey believes the two counties should explore the cost of repairing or replacing the bridge before making a decision.
The bridge could be replaced in 2010.
One of the cost-effective options being considered is a bridge with a fiberglass deck, similar to one being installed near Massie, in Grey County.
