The 14th annual Jeff Preston Golf Tournament was staged at Saugeen Golf Club in Port Elgin.
The event, which is a fundraiser for Muscular Dystrophy research, a disease Preston has been afflicted with, bypassed the one million dollar mark in funds generated through the years.
The Preston Tournament is conducted yearly by the Port Elgin Rotary Club with assistance from both other Rotary clubs and community supporters.
Preston, who was 11 when the tournament originated in 1996, is overwhelmed by the support and stability that this tournament receives.
More than 50 celebrities and close to 300 golfers participated in both the Thursday night Wine & Cheese Night and the golf tournament which is staged on the third Friday of July every year.
Preston, who has his M.A. and has graduated from the University of Western Ontario, says he gets choked up thinking about the support he receives and is grateful that more than half of his life battling Muscular Dystrophy has featured this tournament.
The host says the tournament often is a motivating factor for him, especially when times get tough or he finds himself battling sickness.
Preston has no idea how long his tournament will exist, he thinks maybe forever, and he says he’s honored by it all and has committed to be a part of it for how ever long it does run.
