A much shorter shutdown than had been expected at Collingwood’s ethanol plant.
Plant officials say they’re already putting the final touches on the work that’s supposed to limit the noise and smell that plagued Collingwood for the last two years.
The plant’s set to start re-opening on July 20th.
The company — which now calls itself Amaizeingly Green rather than Collingwood Ethanol — says it’s currently in discussions with the Ministry of the Environment to be allowed to re-start operations next week.
When the company announced its shut-down earlier this year, it was expecting to have to close for more than eight weeks.
The shut-down has actually been less than a month.
In its release today, the ethanol plant says the reason for the shortened shutdown is because of the ready availability of equipment and construction labour.
The company also says it did not have to lay off any staff during the shut-down, and says it’s hoping for a fresh new start in its relationship with Collingwood.
Earlier this month, the company paid hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines and apologised to the town and the mayor for its actions and reactions to the town’s attempts to force a cleanup.
