A new turn of events at Site 41 in Simcoe County.
OPP confirm officers have told protestors at the centre of the blockade at the landfill in Tiny Township that they could be charged if they don’t stop the protest.
Constable Peter Leon could only say protestors have violated the criminal code, but he couldn’t elaborate.
The blockade is continuing and has been going on for just over a week and a half.
Constable Leon says public safety has not been threatened but police do not condone any illegal activity and so officers continue to negotiate with protestors to try to find a peaceful end to the blockade.
Leon maintains police action of any type is always a last resort.
