In an attempt to show a strong united front, a new Board of Directors has been struck for the Bruce Grey Huron Disability Board Transportation Service.
Chair Kathi Maskell calls it a daunting task.
After losing 255 thousand dollars in provincial funding the new Board of Directors has to find a way to make the Disability service financial viable.
The province phased out the 255 thousand dollars in funding this year.
The new Board is made up of the mayors from the five member municipalities including the Grey and Bruce County wardens.
Maskell believes this new power house style of Board of Directors will send a strong message to the province – that this region highly values the disability transportation service.
She says the Board’ first priority is to keep the disability service running.
The Board is currently in talks with the province in an attempt to work out the funding issues.
A municipal buy in plan may be one possible option.
The Bruce Grey Huron Disability Transportation Service caters to seniors and those with special needs.
The new Board of Directors was formed on June 30th.
