The local tourism numbers are looking pretty positive despite the downturn in the economy and the cool damp start to the summer.
Owen Sound Tourism and Marketing Co-ordinator Paulette Peirol says last month alone they had 14 hundred visitors check in at the Tourism office at the Marine and Railway Museum on the west side of the harbour.
She says while the cool wet weather is bad for the beach, it spells good news for the city as people, rather that be stuck ina cottage or tent, will drive into town to shop, go to a movie or take in a meal.
Peirol says Owen Sound is part of a Regional Tourism Marketing alliance that include Grey and Bruce Counties, alone with the other smaller tourism groups and they all are working together to attract and direct tourists to various locations and attractions in the region.
She says anther initiative that is begriming to pay dividends is the marketing alliance between Downtown Owen Sound, Heritage Place Mall and the cities big box stores.
Peirol says everyone involved in that campaign is pleased with how well its working and the barriers are being broken down and the groups are working for the common good.
