Grey Bruce Habitat for Humanity wants to build in Hanover.
Officials want to build four semi detached homes that will house eight low income families in Hanover.
The proposed two story condominium style project is not sitting well with neighbours because it involves infilling.
Resident and past Habitat for Humanity project manager Norma Szabo takes real issue with the location of the project.
She says the proposed project will take place on a large green space in the middle of a block — located on 14th Street between 10th and 11th Avenue.
Szabo also doesn’t like the fact the proposal is for two stories — she says it’s just too big for the neighbourhood.
Habitat Spokesperson Alan MacDonald isn’t surprised by the opposition.
He calls it a knee jerk reaction.
MacDonald says Habitat for Humanity runs into this problem all of the time as no one wants the project in their backyard.
MacDonald says a two story condominium style build is the most economical option.
Hanover is urging Habitat for Humanity and the adjacent neighbours to sit down and try to come up with some sort of compromise.
Habitat had hoped to begin construction on the Hanover build projects in 2011.
There are 100 families in Hanover that have applied for Habitat housing.
