Saugeen Shores councillors will have some extra company at their next meeting.
There is a petition circulating in Southampton, calling on the councillors to drop the idea of putting in sanitary sewers north of the Saugeen River.
Hundreds of names have been collected to date and will be presented to Saugeen Shores council at their next meeting tonight.
As it stands now, residents on that side of the river are on septic systems.
The Federal and Ontario governments are each contributing over 5.8 million towards the 17.6 million dollar plan to install sanitary sewers north of the Saugeen River under the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund.
The town must put in a third of the cost as well and that would be charged to those residents getting the sewer service.
Two public meetings have been held on the issue the majority of those attending were against the project.
Saugeen Shores councillors have not approved going ahead with the project but if they decide not to, then the money would likely have to be returned to the senior levels of government.
