Family Fishing Weekend is underway across Ontario.
It’s all part of National Fishing Week, hosted by the Canadian Sportfishing Industry Association.
The Association’s Managing Director, Tina Deutsch, tells Bayshore Broadcasting news that people can try out the sport without needing a licence.
Deutsch says it’s the perfect opportunities for families to get outside and enjoy the ‘free’ event.
She points out the equipment you need can be kept very simple and inexpensive.
Deutsch says National Fishing Week as a whole is meant to introduce people to the sport.
She says fishing is a part of our country’s heritage and is extremely popular, listed as the 5th most popular recreational activity in Canada.
Deutsch says it’s also important to local economies, generating over 7 billion dollars a year nationwide.
Ontario Family Fishing Weekend means you don’t need a licence Friday, Saturday or Sunday, but you still need to follow conservation limits.
