The people who deliver mail may have to do some snow shovelling as well.
Grey County passed a by-law this week that will see Canada Post set up community mailboxes along road allowances on County roads.
Director of Transportation Gary Shaw says Canada Post — not the County — will be responsible for the maintenance of these mailboxes including snow removal.
He says residents with individual mailboxes will continue to be responsible for the clearing of snow in front of their mailbox.
Shaw says there have been a number of community mailboxes being set up in Grey County.
He says there will be 27 new community mailboxes that will be put up in Blue Mountains.
He says there are rural areas that don’t have room for individual mailboxes so Canada Post is putting up the community mailboxes that will hold mail for several households.
Shaw says there will also be some individual rural mailboxes that will have to be relocated due to safety concerns from Canada Post.
