Choi, Dubois Share Lead at Investors Group Ontario Junior and Juvenile Boys Championship
CAMBRIDGE, ON Brantfords Stephane Dubois carded a second-round 66 to jump to the top of the leaderboard alongside first-round leader Albin Choi at the Investors Group Ontario Junior and Juvenile Boys Championship. The four-day event features Ontarios best male junior golfers and is being hosted by Whistle Bear Golf Club in Cambridge.
Dubois, 17, who recently qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur, closed out day two of the event with a total score of 138 (66-72). Toronto resident Choi, who represents Caledon Woods Golf Club, shares the lead with a matching six-under par 138 (72-66). The 17 year old is the recent winner of the CN Future Links Ontario Championship and is looking for his first chance to hoist the Lady Eaton trophy when play concludes on Friday.
Defending Canadian and Ontario Junior Boys champion Mitch Sutton, 17, of London is holding steady in third place with a three-under par 141 (71-70).
Six golfers sit four strokes back, tied for fourth place. Daniel Kim, Patrick Williams, and Doug Hoppe of Toronto all finished with a two-under par 142 along with Richmond Hills Jack Sedgewick, Oakvilles Brian Churchill-Smith, and Listowels Corey Conners.
The field of 155 golfers was cut at the conclusion of the second round to the low 60 golfers who will continue on to play the final two rounds. Action continues Thursday morning beginning at 7:30 am with the champion to be crowned on Friday afternoon.
The Investors Group Ontario Junior and Juvenile Boys Championship is open to male golfers eighteen years of age or less, and 2009 marks the 87th playing of the event. Past champions include 2009 NCAA Champion Matt Hill, and current PGA Tour and Nationwide Tour players Bryan DeCorso, Jon Mills, David Morland IV and Mike Weir.
