It’s that time of the year again, as OPP warn residents in rural areas to be alert for outdoor Marijuana grow-ops.
Police say many can be found growing now in farmers fields, in wooded areas, in swampy areas and along rivers.
No part of Ontario is immune, with fields planted in Grey Bruce, south to Windsor and east thru Ottawa as well as north to North Bay.
OPP Drug Enforcement Detective Inspector Dean Steinke tells Bayshore Broadcasting news although they want you to keep you eyes open for marijuana crops, they want you to be extra cautious.
Steinke says if you come across a field of pot, go back out exactly the way you came into the field, because it could be booby-trapped.
The OPP Detective Inspector says some fields have trip wires that fire bullets or skids that will drop rocks or spikes on your head.
Last year, 270 million dollars worth of marijuana was seized during the Eradication program and over 2,400 people were charged.
Detective Inspector Steinke says these are not mom and pop operations that grow a few plants in the backyard, but people who make big money and are will to defend their illegal operations.
