The Ontario Provincial Police will continue to patrol Kincardine.
Council officially passed a by-law last night that would see the Municipality pay the O-P-P over two million dollars a year over the next five years.
Councillor Marsha Leggett says until now the O-P-P did not have a contract — the last one expired back in May.
She says the rates were two to three years behind other areas and were trying to play catch up.
Leggett says the contract can be renegotiated after three years to allow their staff for a raise.
She says the South Bruce detachment in Kincardine has 16 full-time officers and 6 auxiliary officers.
The new contract sees a 16 percent increase from the last one.
It includes a new Staff Sergeant position and a new full-time officer.
