Five furniture companies in Ontario are getting provincial money to project jobs, and become more competitive.
Four of the five companies are in the riding of Huron Bruce and Bruce Grey Owen Sound.
Huron Bruce Liberal MPP Carol Mitchell says in total the five projects are worth nearly 1.5 million dollars, with Queens Park picking up 705 thousand dollars of the cost.
Bogdon and Gross Furniture in Walkerton, West Furniture in Hanover, Hanover Veneer furniture in Mildmay, and D-J’s Furniture in Wroxeter are sharing in the funding along with Spec furniture of Toronto.
It’s part of the Rural economic development program and Mitchell says the goal is to preserve 270 jobs in the wood furniture industry.
Mitchell says the provincial investment will allow the furniture sector to form a strategic alliance, allowing it to incorporate leading edge technology and become more competitive.
