A deal to keep CKNX-TV in Wingham, better known as A-Channel on the air, is dead and with it, the Local TV channel could be dead as well.
Shaw Communications — the second-largest cable company in Canada — had offered to buy the station, plus ones in Windsor and Brandon Manitoba from CTV Globemedia for just one dollar each.
But, a CTV news release states Shaw has decided not to go ahead with the purchase.
In February this year, cash-strapped CTV said they would not be renewing the licence for the Wingham station when it expires at the end of August.
CKNX-TV has been on the air since 1955.
Meanwhile, CHCH TV may be kept alive.
CanWest Global communications has announced it is selling two TV stations to an upstart broadcaster for less than 5 thousand dollars.
Channel Zero Inc. is a cable company that is picking up the Hamilton TV station and one in Montreal from CanWest.
The General Manager of Channel Zero, Cal Millar is quoted as saying he will turn CHCH into an all news channel during the day, and run movies at night.
His company owns cable stations Movieola and Silver Screen Classics.
