Canada is one of the world’s most diverse countries and acknowledged as among the best places in which to live.
Many of us are celebrating our nation’s 142nd birthday this Canada Day with parades, fireworks and community barbecues.
The MP for Huron-Bruce says there is much more to Canada Day than just that.
Ben Lobb says we’re lucky to be able to live in a country that’s looked up to by the international community.
Lobb says Canadians are proud of their country which is the best in the world to live in, and that we should be proud of our democracy and uninterrupted peace that we enjoy.
Lobb says a recent campaign mounted by the Harper government called “Proud to be Canadian” received overwhelmingly positive response.
Lobb says thousands of Huron-Bruce constituents sent back cards distributed by his office saying they fly flags and are proud of our history and tradition.
He says Canada Day is as much a celebration of our good fortune to live in Canada as it is a recognition of our roots.
Lobb says today is also a good time to think of Canadian soldiers serving in Afghanistan and other parts of the world.
Lobb serves on the federal Veterans’ Affairs committee and says Canadian soldiers on active service as well as veterans deserve our thanks on Canada Day as well.
