The City of Owen Sound and the Township of Georgian Bluffs are showing they want to work together to benefit the Region.
At last night’s joint council meeting the two municipalities agreed to create a joint task force to look at their common issues.
Georgian Bluffs Mayor Alan Barfoot says there are a few things the City needs from the Township and vise versa.
Barfoot says by creating a task force they are showing there is an open door policy and they can work with one another.
The task force will consist of three members from each council.
Owen Sound Mayor Ruth Lovell Stanners says it was very productive and positive meeting.
Lovell Stanners says they got down to some fairly meaty issues like emergency services and the expansion of Springmount.
Barfoot says it seems the Springmount issue is still up for negotiation.
Members of City Council made it clear their main concern with the expansion has to do with protecting wetland in the area.
Councillor Bill Twaddle says their concern is urban style development on rural surfaces.
Both Councils have agreed to begin with smaller issues which can be done fairly quickly.
Barfoot says they would like to start with something small to show it can be done.
Other areas of discussion included planning, hard servicing, waste management, airport ownership and funding for the 33 million dollar recreation centre.
