Town councillors in Collingwood have given the thumbs-up to spending two million dollars on a spruce-up of the main street.
The Federal and provicial governments have each agreed to provide two million dollars in funding, while the Business Improvement Association has pledged one million to the project.
The vote to ask for the money was unanimous, but Monday night’s vote was 6-2 in favour.
When the project is complete, Hurontario Street and Simcoe Street between Hurontario and the new library will have wider sidewalks and more room for outdoor cafes and patios.
The angle of parking will also change somewhat.
The job is slated to go to tender in August with work to begin in September and be completed before March of 2011.
