It’s good news for farmers who want to make environmental improvements to their agriculture operations.
The Provincial and Federal Government have announced funding of 42 million dollars for the Growing Forward Environment and Climate Change program for the next four years.
The program will be delivered by the Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association .
Grey County Agricultural Represent Ray Robertson says its good news as a large number of farmers were just waiting for the funding announcement so they could take part in the program.
The program will offer farmers environmental farm planning educational workshops that promote the adoption of best management practices for soil, water, air and biodiversity.
He says the program covers 28 different categories that are eligible for funding and they range from manure management to water efficiency around the barn.
Robertson says there are several new categories that farmers can apply for funding which include a farm energy audit and livestock mortality which has been a hot topic in the livestock sector over the past few months.
He says this program is on a cost sharing basis with the government providing anything from 30 to 50 per cent funding for certain projects.
Robertson says funding will be handed out on a first come basis.
