The Georgian Bay Garden Club is holding their 17th Annual Tour of Gardens.
Organizers Betty Adair and Marianne Legg say this year’s event features six gardens on the west side of Owen Sound.
Legg says each garden is unique and you’ll have the opportunity to explore many different types.
A member of the Garden Club will be at each location to answer questions and share their knowledge.
Legg says the tour is a great way to get some ideas for your own backyard.
Adair says their refreshment stop is the Shallow Lake Community Centre.
That’s where people on the tour can enjoy some tea and listen to gardening experts giving presentations at 2 PM, 3 PM and 4 PM this afternoon.
The topics include container gardening, shrubberies, and hot new perennials for 2009.
Tickets for the tour are still 12 dollars this year, and they get you access to all the gardens plus the refreshment stop and presentations.
All the proceeds go back into sprucing up the area.
The Georgian Bay Garden Club’s community projects include conservation efforts to eradicate invasive species like purple loosestrife from the area.
Members also maintain many community gardens such as the Garden On The Bay, the Inglis Falls gardens, the butterfly garden at Grey Sauble Conservation, and the gardens at the Owen Sound Library.
The Club also contributes to the DIA for floral displays and provides bursaries to students pursuing degrees in horticultural studies.
Tickets for the tour — which runs from Noon to 6 PM today — can still be purchased at the gardens as you arrive.
