It’s a road map to better health and local food.
The 2010 edition of the Grey Bruce Agriculture and Culinary will be officially released later this week at the Owen Sound Farmers Market.
This is the second year the Culinary Association has published the map which highlights the location of local food producers such as fruit vegetable farms, meat and dairy producers to honey and syrup locations to place where you can purchase locally produced beer and wine.
Association spokesman Freeman Boyd says this have added about 20 new food producers to this years map which brings to 135 the number of outlets where people can purchase local food.
He says this year they are seeing more small market gardeners offering up local produce compared to a year ago.
Boyd also says although demand to buy local food is increasing he feels the local farmers can meet that demand and they also are seeing more young people getting involved in agriculture, specifically in the area of vegetable production.
Boyd says reaction to last years first edition of the food map was very positive with a number of producers telling him that there was a large increase in their farm gate sales because people were able to follow the map to their location.
The latest edition of the Grey Bruce Agriculture and Culinary Association food map will be unveiled tomorrow morning at the Owen Sound Farmers market.
Boyd says this year they are printing about 20 thousand copies of the popular map, which will be distributed free throughout the region at various tourist outlets.
