The congregation of St. Georges Anglican Church in Owen Sound is praying Fridays Trailer Park Boys concert is a sell out.
The proceeds from that concert will go towards the 150 thousand dollar cost for restoration work of this historic church’s tower.
John Hull says a Toronto area company will begin erecting scaffolding on July 6th then begin the work of restoring and replacing the crumbling mortar in the tower.
Hull says its essential that the work get done this year because if it isn’t, there is a good chance the tower could collapse.
He says the work will encompass the entire tower right up to the base of the green metal steeple.
Nancy King is the chair of the tower restoration fundraising committee and says the cost if too much for a small congregation to handle that is why they have gone public with their appeal.
She says St. Georges is an historical significiant building in Owen Sound which was constructed in 1881 for a cost of 12 thousand dollars.
King says the community has a responsibility to preserve this church which she describes as one of the most important in the city.
The Trailer Park Boys fundraising show takes place tonight at the Bayshore Community Centre in Owen Sound
