The Walkerton Clean Water Centre is hosting the 3rd Annual Drinking Water Education and Industry Forum.
CEO Dr. Saad Jasim says the keynote speaker will be Ontario’s Chief Drinking Water Inspector John Stager.
Dr. Jasim says Stager will release his Annual Drinking Water report for 2007/2008.
Dr. Jasim says the results show great progress in the number of municipalities and water systems that provided safe drinking water without any problems for the entire year.
Dr. Jasim says there will also be at least 20 industry representatives, equipment manufacturers, and suppliers on hand providing demonstrations and displays.
He says some new technologies will be introduced, such as a system that easily detects the presence of pathogens.
Dr. Jasim says the Centre’s message has always been that education is the key to ensuring clean water.
He says the lesson learned from the Walkerton e-coli tragedy is that training will provide people with the knowledge and capability to deal with any challenges in providing safe drinking water.
Dr. Jasim proudly notes the Centre has provided training to more than 17-thousand people in less than 4 years.
Dr. Jasim says at last count, about 120 people had registered for this year’s forum.
He adds it is open to anyone and is a free event.
The 3rd Annual Drinking Water Education and Industry Forum is being held at the Centre today from 9:30 AM to 3 PM.
