Saugeen Shores and Bruce County are working together on a new design to improve development along urban areas of Highway 21, and High Street in Southampton.
Bruce County Urban Planner Kara Van Myall says they’ve partnered to come up with design guidelines for development in the busy main street areas.
She says at a workshop held in July 2008, they asked those in attendance what they thought the major issues surrounding development in the area were.
She says the purpose of another workshop taking place on Wednesday is go back to the public with general guidelines on how new development — or redevelopment should happen along Highway 21 or High Street.
Van Myall says they’re focusing on five aspects, buildings, transportation, parks, landmarks, and the environment.
The workshop runs from 9 AM to 3 PM today in Rotary Hall at The Plex in Port Elgin.
The session will include in-depth group discussion and the opportunity to make suggestions on how the guidelines could be fine-tuned in order best suit the communities and neighbourhoods along the route.
