The future of high schools in our area could be decided tonight.
Trustees are meeting to continue a meeting they started last Wednesday.
No decisions were made on what to do with the schools in Stayner, Elmvale, Collingwood and Penetanguishene or whether to give Wasaga a high school.
Clearview Township Councillor Shawn Davidson says no matter what school board trustees decide, a plan will still have to be put in place and then submitted to the province for funding which could take a long time.
He predicts trustees will address the urgent issue of the state of disrepair Elmvale District High School is in.
Springwater Township Mayor Tony Guergis hopes trustees will realize Simcoe County needs schools to fit the individual needs of the communities like Elmvale and Wasaga Beach and not a big box school that tears communities apart.
One of the recommendations trustees are to consider is a shared Wasaga Beach/Elmvale high school.
Wasaga Beach Mayor Cal Patterson is confident Wasaga will be getting a new high school.
Shawn Davidson hopes trustees get down to business tonight and not have a repeat of the meeting last Wednesday.
He says trustees spent the first part of the meeting making changes to the agenda and then there was some agruing between trustees.
Davidson says one trustee even walked out of the meeting, but eventually came back in.
He says trustees barely even discussed the future of secondary school in our area.
Tonight’s meeting is at 6:30 PM at the Education Centre in Midhurst.
