Plans for four weekend motorcross events in West Grey have ended up in the ditch.
Kelly and Earl Hopkins wanted to hold the competitions on their farm this summer near Markdale.
They were backed by a handful of neighbours and supporters, adding they don’t want to do what they do at Williamsford.
At the same time the couple applied for the right to set up a motorcycle repair shop on their property.
West Grey Mayor Kevin Eccles tells Bayshore Broadcasting News in two recorded votes Thursday night — both applications were turned down.
Eccles says the repair shop was voted down 5-4, and the motorcross weekend application was turned down 7-2.
He says lawyers told West Grey that both applications would require a zoning amendment first.
Eccles says the property wasn’t zoned for automotive, or for weekend camping for the motorcross events.
The applicants can seek zoning amendments, but Mayor Eccles says for this year they won’t be able to hold motorcross racing there.
