A Meaford area Organic farm is expanding its operation.
Sunrise Organics is expanding its organic compost and compost tea operation to include a community shared agriculture garden.
Mark Grahlman says this will allow consumers to contract with their organic farm to purchase a weekly amount of vegetables and fruits during a 20 week harvest season.
He says this will allow the consumers to see their food grow into maturity and also give them the chance to take party in such crop activities like planting, cultivating and harvesting.
Grahlman says in addition they also will be providing organic food to a select group of restaurants and wholesalers.
He also says this year they are expanding their garlic growing operation from a few acres to about 27 acres.
He says that they are using the compost tea to spray the orchards in an effort to increase the apple trees immunity to better fight off insects naturally.
Grahlman says the use of tea and compost as the only crop protection will greatly benefit the food quality as well as the environment.
