There is more talk on a proposed parking lot expansion at the Bayview Public School in Owen Sound.
Both sides in the dispute over whether to expand the schools parking lot into an existing primary playground brought their arguments to Tuesdays Bluewater District School Board meeting in Chesley.
Bayviews School Community Council member Rhonda Brown says they received a letter from the Boley family at a meeting in May and that letter sparked a conversation about the playground.
The letter mentioned that a tree was planted on the playground in memory of Jody Boley — a Grade 1 BPS student who died of cancer in 1994.
Brown — who opposes the parking lot proposal — says parents began to ask questions about the parking lot and the playground as no one had a clue what was coming.
She says they approached school board staff only to receive misinformation and have had doors closed on them.
Brown says there was no alternative proposal brought forth that would save the playground while meeting the parking needs of the school.
She says no one has come up with ways of getting people to leave their vehicles at home and walking to school instead.
Brown says the proposed parking lot goes to Owen Sound City Council for site plan approval on July 6th.
SCC Chair Richard Thomas was also at the Board meeting giving his case for the parking lot.
Those in favour of expansion say the existing lot is a hazard for children entering and leaving the school because of the increasing number of vehicles there.
