A writer from Collingwood will find out tonight if she wins a National award.
Gloria Phillips has been nominated for a Canadian Christian Writing Award for her fictional novel called “A Pilgrim Passes Through”.
She is a finalist in the historical novel category.
It’s Phillips first work of fiction and chronicles the life of a Home Child who immigrated from Britain to Canada a century ago.
Phillips has previously published two non fiction genealogy books and says this book is loosely based on her grandparents.
Phillips says she used that information and also looked at the history of the places where her grandparents lived to write the book.
Phillips says it’s a time she loves reading and writing about — but glad she doesn’t live in it because it was so tough.
Phillips says she didn’t even know about the awards until a book store owner recommended she look into the Canadian Christian Writers Guild.
Phillips tells Bayshore Broadcasting News she never expected to be nominated with such talented writers — she just wanted a critique of her work.
The winner will be announced tonight at a black-tie Awards Gala at World Visions headquarters in Mississauga.
Phillips is working on a series with the characters in this book.
The next work of fiction is already in the editing stages and she has started working on the third book.
