Tonight’s decision night on high schools in Simcoe County.
The school board offices in Midhurst are expected to be packed with parents, teachers and students as trustees decide tonight where students in Wasaga Beach, Stayner and Elmvale will attend classes.
An accommodation review committee suggested there be no changes to the location of high schools, and no new secondary school be built for students living in Wasaga Beach.
A few weeks later, a school board staff report recommended closing the schools in Elmvale and eventually Stayner while building a new school in Wasaga.
Wasaga Mayor Cal Patterson says he’s expecting Wasaga to get a school of its own, and for Stayner’s school to remain open.
He says with Elmvale’s school needing replacement, it just makes sense to build in the east end of Wasaga Beach instead.
Students from Stayner, Penetanguishene and Elmvale will wear school colours at tonight’s meeting.
Wasaga Beach students are being asked to wear white to show the lack of school colours, since there’s no school.
